Anthropic is building a political program to engage 2028 presidential candidates on AI policy
Fortune reported the plan from a new Political Programs lead posting. The hire would work with candidates from both parties on AI policy and help set Anthropic's political strategy and how it funds political activity. The role requires more than a decade of campaign experience. The move extends an already active political footprint. Chief executive Dario Amodei personally gave $1M to the Public First super PAC in July, while OpenAI president Greg Brockman cancelled a planned $25M follow-up political contribution. This week Anthropic also revised the election section of its usage policy. For AI founders, frontier labs are now treating the 2028 race as a direct policy battleground, which means rules on compute, model liability, copyright and state preemption may be shaped by campaign commitments made over the next two years. Smaller companies without political operations will need trade groups or coalitions to be heard in that process.
