Nvidia pledges $1B and AMD $500M as 11 companies commit $2.4B in compute credits to the Genesis Mission
The White House unveiled the pledges Thursday at its Science: A New Golden Age summit. Beyond the five largest donors, AMP and Emerald AI committed $100M each, and AWS, Armada, Crusoe and Micron $50M each. Nvidia says its share runs over five years across university research, quantum computing and government cloud providers. The White House put the summit's full package at more than $6B. The money goes to the Genesis Mission Consortium, a Department of Energy hub set up in February to pair companies with more than a dozen federal agencies on AI for energy, health and space research. Private partners were already required for large team bids on a $293M Genesis funding call. Most of the total is machine time and tool access from the firms that sell it, so its cash value is hard to judge. Still, for founders in AI for science, it creates a large pool of subsidized frontier compute and model access flowing through federal labs, and a new channel to land government research customers.
