Google Cloud unveils Gemini agent, one enterprise agent that plans work, spawns sub-agents and can run Claude
The agent is in private preview, with no pricing and no general release date. Besides temporary sub-agents, it can act as a long-term colleague agent with its own email and storage. Kurian said every Gemini agent has an identity separate from the user's, which lets the agent work within existing enterprise controls. Model routing covers Gemini and Claude today, with other private and open models to come later, and Google says the routing improves quality and lowers cost. Until now, Google's AI tools ran only on Google models. At the event, Honeywell showed Gemini Enterprise agentic workflows built into its Forge IoT platform. For startups selling vertical agents or orchestration layers, Google is bundling planning, memory, agent identity and multi-model routing into one enterprise product that also reaches Microsoft 365 and Slack. Model labs get another distribution channel through Google. App builders now face an incumbent that can run headless inside their products or replace them. Pricing, still unannounced, will decide how much room independents have left.
