OpenMuse: Opensource, self hostable personal assistant for any harness
CopilotKit shipped OpenMuse on September 22, 2026. It is an alpha release under the MIT license, and the code is meant to be cloned and built on. The stack has a persistent Chromium browser the user can take over, an optional sandboxed Linux workspace, file and PDF handling, and a background task worker. It also connects to Gmail and Google Calendar, and it prepares mail and calendar changes for the user to review. The client is built with React Native for iOS, Android and web. Users bring their own model keys and hosting. One review describes it as built for a single owner. Reports put the repository at about 890 stars at launch and roughly 3.9k stars and 527 forks since. The release follows Meta's closed, hosted Muse agent by a few weeks. Meta has acknowledged that Muse was heavily inspired by OpenClaw. CopilotKit's version is the self-hosted, auditable alternative. It also uses AG-UI, the agent-to-frontend protocol CopilotKit maintains, to propose skills from user interactions for approval. For founders, the project shows how fast a personal-agent product can be copied as an open template. It also works as a reference design for agent UIs that handle approvals, resumable tasks and handoff to a human. Teams selling hosted personal agents will face self-hosted alternatives. The alpha status and single-owner design mean it is not yet a multi-tenant base.
