About Alexandr Wang

Background

Alexandr Wang is an American entrepreneur born in 1997 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He studied machine learning at MIT and left in 2016 to join Y Combinator. That year he co-founded Scale AI, which provides data labeling and model evaluation services for AI development. Earlier roles included Quora, Hudson River Trading and Addepar.

Wang was Scale AI's CEO until June 2025. At that point Meta invested $14.3 billion for a 49% stake, and he became Meta's first chief AI officer and head of Meta Superintelligence Labs. He stepped down as Scale's CEO and remains on its board. His public X profile lists Meta and Scale AI, and Lounge lists his location as Menlo Park, CA.

He works full time on AI at Meta, and Scale is a major supplier of data to AI model builders. Neither fact is a stated investing thesis.

Investment focus

The Crunchbase record shows rounds from seed to Series B, with a heavy lean toward AI companies. Wang has not published a thesis, a check size range or a description of what he looks for in founders, so none is given here. Founders should treat any outreach as a cold approach to a full-time Meta executive.
