About India Quotient

Background

India Quotient is a venture capital firm, not an individual angel. Anand Lunia and Madhukar Sinha founded it, and sources date the founding to between 2011 and 2013. Gagan Goyal is a general partner, and Kanika Agarrwal and Sahil Makkar are partners.

The firm describes itself as a seed-first investor. It tries to come in on day one, usually leads the round, and works closely with founders from the start. Its sources list Mumbai and Bengaluru as its base.

Angel investing track record

India Quotient invests through institutional funds. It has raised five: a maiden fund in 2013, an opportunities fund in 2019, later funds including Fund IV, which has backing from British International Investment, and Fund V. Fund V is $129M and was reported closed in October 2025.

Tracxn counts 132 portfolio companies, one unicorn (ShareChat) and 21 acquisitions. In 2025 Kanika Agarrwal said the firm does about 12 to 13 deals a year. Early investments include ShareChat, SUGAR Cosmetics and Lendingkart (Fund I).

AI investments

India Quotient led Omli's $1.5M seed round in June 2026, with General Catalyst participating. Omli is a Gurugram startup that builds OmliKids, an AI speech companion app for children aged 3 to 10, and a speech model tuned to children's voices and Indian accents.

In a YourStory interview, Agarrwal said the firm expects AI to make software easier to use and drive adoption. She said the fundamentals of seed investing have not changed, and that the firm aims to invest before something becomes a theme.
