About Justin Kan

Background

Justin Kan is an American internet entrepreneur and investor. He co-founded Justin.tv, which led to Twitch, and the mobile video app Socialcam. Earlier he founded Kiko, a calendar app funded by Y Combinator in 2005 and sold to Tucows in 2006. Twitch was later acquired by Amazon.

He was a partner at Y Combinator from 2014 to 2017. In 2017 he left to start Zero-F, a self-funded incubator. He then co-founded and ran the legal services startup Atrium from 2017 until it shut down in March 2020.

Since 2020 he has been founder and general partner of Goat Capital. He is also a co-founder of the crypto gaming marketplace Fractal and posts on YouTube.

Angel investing track record

TechCrunch reported in 2017 that Kan had backed more than 60 startups as an angel, including Cruise Automation, which his brother Dan founded and General Motors later bought. Crunchbase lists 93 personal investments, and NFX Signal lists 111 investments on record. Both counts come from third-party databases and may be incomplete.

When he launched Zero-F, he said he planned to invest between several hundred thousand dollars and $1M to start new projects. He put an initial $200,000 into Whale.
