About Timo Boldt

Background

Timo Boldt was born in Berlin and lived in California as a teenager. His early career was in finance. He worked in project management at BMW, then as an analyst at Rothschild from 2007. By 2011 he was a vice president at the hedge fund Petrus Advisers.

In 2012 he left finance to found Gousto, a UK recipe-box company, with James Carter. He has run it as founder and CEO since then. Gousto and Boldt appeared on Dragons' Den in 2013 and did not get a Dragons' offer. A group of food-industry angels then backed the company. Crunchbase lists Boldt as the recipient of IGD's Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2016, and he was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year UK in 2022.

Outside Gousto, his LinkedIn profile lists a non-executive director role at OakNorth Bank from August 2022. It also lists a period as founder and chair of Bento Tech, a subscription technology company, and an earlier non-executive role at the marketing platform Pollen. He hosts a leadership podcast, Bold[t] Flavours.

Angel investing track record

Public information on Boldt's angel activity is thin. Tracxn lists him as an angel investor in two startups. Of these, Calibre's April 2026 pre-seed round is the one this profile can confirm. Press coverage of that round names him as one of the angels, alongside N26 co-founder Maximilian Tayenthal. We found no public check sizes, fund vehicle or investment thesis from him.

AI investments

Calibre is the AI investment we can confirm. It is a London healthtech company founded in 2025 by Alexander Weber, Ben Levy and Dr Reinhold Innerhofer. It combines diagnostics, clinical expertise and causal AI in a membership product. Its $3.3M pre-seed round was announced on 22 April 2026 and led by Amino Collective, with Daybreak Ventures and Cocoa Ventures also taking part.

Boldt gave a public comment on the deal. He said he built Gousto on the belief that food is medicine, and that Calibre supplies the personalised insight that is missing from health decisions. As an operator, he also runs a company that describes itself as using AI and automation for personalisation.

Investment focus

The only confirmed investment is a UK pre-seed round in a consumer health company built on AI. Boldt's operating background is in consumer subscription businesses and food. He has not published a stage, sector or geography mandate, and his check size is not public.
