About Surya Midha

Background

Surya Midha grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended Bellarmine College Preparatory, graduating in 2021, and then enrolled at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. He took academic leave in 2023 to co-found Mercor with his high-school friends Adarsh Hiremath and Brendan Foody.

Mercor raised a $3.6M seed round led by General Catalyst, a $30M Series A led by Benchmark in September 2024, and a $100M Series B led by Felicis in February 2025. He was named a Thiel Fellow in March 2024. Mercor announced a Series C at a $10B valuation in October 2025, and in the same month he moved from COO to chairman of the board.

Forbes describes Mercor as a recruiting startup that helps AI labs train their models. It lists Midha on its 2026 Billionaires list.

Angel investing track record

Public databases show only a small number of personal investments. Crunchbase lists 2 investments, and Tracxn lists 1. The investments confirmed in company announcements are Valinor (2025) and Deeptrace (2026). No fund, syndicate or investing vehicle is listed in the sources reviewed.

AI investments

Midha was named as an angel in Deeptrace's $5M seed round, which the company said was co-led by Felicis and Matrix with participation from Y Combinator. Other angels in that round included Aaron Levie and Gokul Rajaram. Deeptrace builds AI SRE agents that detect, investigate and resolve production incidents. Crunchbase dates the round to March 2026.

He also took part in Valinor's $13M funding announcement. Valinor uses machine learning models to raise the probability of clinical trial success. Tracxn dates its seed round to December 11, 2025.

Investment focus

Midha has not published a thesis, a check size or a list of stages he prefers. Both confirmed investments are early-stage rounds in AI companies: AI developer tooling for incident response (Deeptrace) and AI for clinical trials (Valinor). Tracxn lists his investments as concentrated in Enterprise Applications and HealthTech, all in the United States. Founders should treat this as a pattern in two deals, not a stated focus.

Notable portfolio companies
