About Haakon Overli
Haakon Overli is a co-founder and General Partner of Dawn Capital, a London venture firm focused on European B2B software. On the Dawn site he says he came to venture from a strawberry farm in Norway, by way of running his own businesses. At Dawn he works across the portfolio and oversees growth-stage investing.
Before Dawn he was UK CEO and a founder of Self Trade, an online stockbroker that floated in April 2000. It was sold in October 2000 to HypoVereinsbank for €911m (US$1.1bn). Earlier he was a Director and Co-Head of Technology Investment Banking at ING Barings, and worked in M&A at JP Morgan in New York and London.
He studied Mathematics at the University of Oslo and holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from Durham University. A third-party profile lists his past board roles as Self Trade and Wonga.com, and his Dawn board interests as Conversocial, Crate.io, LeadDesk, Minute Media and Neo Technologies.
Most of Overli's investing runs through Dawn. His personal angel activity in public databases is small. Crunchbase lists one personal investment, a seed round in Algorithmiq. Nordic9 dates it to 2022. Algorithmiq is a quantum computing startup founded by Dr Jussi Westergren, according to Sifted. CB Insights lists two investments for him as an individual, the latest being Twin1 AI in August 2026.
Overli appears as an angel backer in Twin1 AI's $20 million seed round, announced in August 2026. Bessemer Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners and Aramco Ventures co-led the round. Twin1 was founded in 2025 and builds an enterprise platform of AI-powered digital twins for knowledge workers. It plans to grow its teams in San Mateo and London.
In October 2024 he co-wrote a Sifted opinion piece with Jussi Westergren on investing in AI hardware and the UK Budget.
Dawn describes its focus as enterprise software and fintech, and Overli's own remit there is growth-stage investing. His personal angel deals are not tied to one stage in public sources. Twin1 was a seed round and Algorithmiq was also seed. He is based in London, and his angel deals so far include a US and UK company (Twin1) and a Finnish one (Algorithmiq). His personal check size is not public. Nordic9 shows an average round size of $4M for his one recorded deal, which is the size of the round, not his check.

- Algorithmiq: quantum computing software startup; personal seed investment, listed as 2022 by Nordic9.
