ChatGPT Voice gets GPT-Live-1.1 and a smaller Quip variant with six new language voices
OpenAI is rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 and GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, a mini version of the model, in ChatGPT Voice. According to the ChatGPT release notes dated Oct. 15, the update brings more natural accents across languages. New voices cover French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish, plus Bubbie in English. Voices shown can vary by region and account, and users pick one under Settings, then Voice. Live also now uses a wider range of short spoken phrases to tell users when it is searching, a small change aimed at making pauses in a voice conversation feel less ambiguous. The release notes describe a ChatGPT rollout and do not mention API availability, so developers should not assume the same model is exposed to them yet. For teams building voice products, the release shows OpenAI pushing on multilingual accent quality and a lighter model tier in the consumer app. It raises the bar for competing voice assistants in markets where regional accents have been a weak point, and it is a prompt to retest voice agents against the new default.
