Playground by Google Labs: Create, play, and share your own games with Google AI
Google launched Playground on October 7, 2026. It is available to US users aged 18 and over at playground.google, with tiered creation access rolling out based on Google One membership. Creation runs on a weekly token system. Creators pick between a 2D or 3D game and specify whether it's single or multi-player, and they can upload visuals directly for the AI to transform into matching game assets. Published games get in-game leaderboards and multiplayer gameplay in select genres. The product joins other Google Labs no-code tools such as Opal and the filmmaking tool Flow. Google plans to integrate Unity Spark, bringing professional-level mechanics, high-fidelity 3D capabilities and the Unity runtime to the platform. On Product Hunt, the launch received 219 upvotes and 11 comments. For founders, this puts a model provider directly into the prompt-to-game market, combined with a distribution gallery and a subscription bundle. Startups building AI game creation tools now compete with a free-to-try incumbent, so they will need deeper engine control, export options or a niche community to stand apart.
