Arthur Mensch is a French AI researcher and entrepreneur, born in 1992. He studied at École Polytechnique, Télécom Paris and Paris-Saclay University. He earned a PhD in machine learning, with research on applying deep learning to fMRI brain images, and then did postdoctoral research at École normale supérieure in Paris.
He joined Google DeepMind in 2020 as a researcher working on large language models. His work there included the RETRO, Flamingo and Chinchilla projects. He left in May 2023 to start a company.
In 2023 he co-founded Mistral AI with Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix, and he has been its CEO since. He was named to Time's list of the 100 most influential people in AI in 2024.
