About Jeremy Stoppelman

Background

Jeremy Stoppelman co-founded Yelp in 2004 and has been its CEO since then. He has also sat on its board since September 2005. Before Yelp he was a software engineer at Excite@Home from August 1999 to January 2000, then held engineering roles at PayPal from February 2000 to June 2003. He left PayPal as Vice President of Engineering.

He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He also attended Harvard Business School. He is based in San Francisco.

Angel investing track record

On LinkedIn, Stoppelman describes himself as a "super angel" who has invested in over 300 companies over about nine years as a solo investor. He names Vercel, Baseten, Onebrief, Benchling and Chai Discovery among them. He also says he built a portfolio tracker with AI coding tools to spot which portfolio companies are breaking out or raising, so he can help founders more proactively.

Database counts differ because each tracks only part of his activity. Crunchbase lists 50 investments and PitchBook lists 65. Tracxn lists 18 companies and names Netlify and Gusto as unicorns in his portfolio. The self-reported figure of over 300 is much higher than any of these.

AI investments

His most recent listed deal is Enclave, a Tel Aviv startup that finds architectural security vulnerabilities in AI-generated code. It raised a $6M seed round in March 2026 at a reported $33M valuation. 8VC led the round. Other named backers include Patrick Collison, Aaron Levie, Marc Benioff and Stoppelman.

By his own account, his portfolio also includes Baseten and Chai Discovery. He does not give investment years for these in the source we found.

Investment focus

Stoppelman invests as an individual, not through a fund. Tracxn lists his top sectors as Enterprise Applications and Consumer, with investments in the United States, the United Kingdom and two other countries. His listed deals include seed rounds (Enclave, The Librarian, Foraged) and Series A and B rounds (Causal, Streamloots, Quartzy, IfOnly). We found no public statement of his check size or of a thesis for what he looks for.
